Anodic stripping voltammetry was first invented in the 1920s and won the Nobel Prize in Chemistry for its inventor Jaroslav Heyrovsky in 1969. Anodic stripping voltammetry applies a reduction potential to the working electrode, and when the electrode potential exceeds the precipitation potential of a certain ion, the metal ions in the solution are reduced to metal and plated on the surface of the working electrode. When enough metal is plated on the surface of the working electrode and the potential is increased at a constant rate towards the working electrode, the metal will dissolve (oxidize) on the electrode. Each metal has a specific oxidation or dissolution reaction voltage. The type of metal is identified based on the potential value of oxidation, and multiple metals can be measured simultaneously through their oxidation potential difference. The current is measured and the corresponding potential is recorded to calculate the concentration of metal ions.
