During the epidemic prevention and control period, ecological and environmental departments in various regions will increase the monitoring of epidemic prevention and control characteristic indicators such as residual chlorine and biological toxicity on the basis of routine monitoring of drinking water sources.


The Ministry of Ecology and Environment recently (January 31) stated that it has requested local ecological and environmental departments to strengthen water quality warning and monitoring in drinking water source areas. During the epidemic prevention and control period, on the basis of routine monitoring of drinking water sources, monitoring of epidemic prevention and control characteristic indicators such as residual chlorine and biological toxicity will be added. When abnormal situations are found, monitoring will be intensified, and measures will be taken in a timely manner to identify the causes, control risks, and eliminate impacts, effectively ensuring the safety of drinking water for the people.

 

The Ministry of Ecology and Environment requires that emergency monitoring plans be improved, emergency preparedness work be planned in advance, and combined with the actual situation of epidemic prevention and control work, the emergency monitoring plan for the pneumonia epidemic environment be further improved. At the same time, emergency monitoring material reserves should be strengthened, and efforts should be made to enhance response capabilities. In the event of sudden environmental pollution incidents or secondary environmental disasters caused by the extensive use of disinfectants, with the approval of the provincial pneumonia epidemic prevention and control leadership group, the first person to rush to the scene and carry out monitoring.

Why monitor biological toxicity

The traditional water quality evaluation method only measures the content of pollutants and cannot directly and comprehensively reflect their comprehensive impact on the environment The biotoxicity testing method has made up for the shortcomings of traditional methods and can effectively detect the comprehensive biological effects of all coexisting pollutants in water bodies. It can intuitively evaluate the safety of water quality and is widely used in drinking water, industrial wastewater, domestic sewage, and other environmental water bodies. It has gradually developed into an effective supplement to traditional water quality evaluation methods It can be seen that biotoxicity testing and related evaluation methods have become the foundation of water quality safety assessment, which is of great significance for protecting water quality safety.

How to monitor biological toxicity

Luminescent bacteria method: The main principle is that toxic substances in the water sample come into contact with and affect the luminescence intensity of luminescent bacteria, which is proportional to the concentration of toxic substances in the sample. Compared with traditional detection methods, this method is easy to operate, fast, and sensitive, and can determine the biological toxicity of drinking water, surface water, and seawater. At present, it has become a commonly used biological toxicity detection method and has been widely applied, and has also been included in the international standard ISO11348.
