The drafting unit of the new national standard "Sanitary Standards for Drinking Water" GB 5749-2022 has not only added many authoritative institutions but also increased the number of relevant enterprises and units in prefecture level cities compared to the first revised and released standard. The number of main standard drafters has also increased by more than half, and the addition of relevant units and experts has made the new standard more comprehensive, applicable, and scientific.

The new national standard replaces the "Sanitary Standards for Drinking Water" GB5749-2006, which specifies the requirements for the quality of drinking water, the quality of drinking water sources, the hygiene requirements for centralized water supply units, the hygiene requirements for secondary water supply, the hygiene requirements for products related to drinking water hygiene and safety, and the methods for water quality inspection. The water quality indicators have been adjusted from 106 to 97, including 43 conventional indicators and 54 extended indicators. The water quality reference indicators have been adjusted from 28 to 55.
